Remote Sensing and GIS

A. Remote Sensing: airborne image - Properties and types of airborne images, the concept of relief displacement, identification of attributes and methods of height calculation, airborne recognition according to Satellite images (Different types of rocks and materials, major faults, active processes, effects caused by human activities), methods of plotting geological maps based on stereoscopic Satellite images. Satellite images: methods of Satellite imaging, Being familiar with sources and Different software of remote sensing, correction of Satellite data, georeferencing of Satellite data, application of Satellite data in mining and environmental science. B. GIS: Being familiar with geographic information system (GIS) and its application in solving exploratory issues, information implied by raster and vector data, fundamental concepts of spatial distribution (euclidean space, compositions, grids in topological graphs, metric and fractal), GIS software, table processing, map processing, processing of modelling data, interpretation of data, modelling by means of decision making, exported data. Practical Activities: =- Being familiar with practical methods including geological/ geotechnical surveying methods using airborne and satellite images. =- Doing a practical project of mapping by using airborne and satellite images. =- Doing a practical GIS project by using available GIS software and presenting the results in the form of reports and maps. Note: Practical subjects are supposed to be done in working groups, each composed of 3-5 members.
